Susan Schultz

Susan Schultz, Ceramic fossils.

  • Human influence on the
    environment.
  • The culmination is a still
life of each city that I visit.
  • capturing a frozen moment.
Clay is dug up from the ground, created over years of materials breaking down, just like fossils. I think this work also symbolizes the creation of the media used to produce these pieces.

Immediately I am reminded of Dominic's work with the whale bones and his Ideas about fossils at the start of the year. Zara's work with the caves also spring to mind.

Benjamin Schulman

 Benjamin Schulman

The work to me has a very childish feel to it while touching on a very pressing topic. Due to the nature of the meaning behind the piece this seems like a strange route to take.

 "en masse"

"critical awareness of the implications"

"unthinkingly propagated"

Due to the slight playful nature of the statuettes I think that Hubert and Emma King would benefit from looking into this artist, as for the artists theme I am unsure of who could relate to that.

Emily Schroeder-Willis

Emily Schroeder-Willis

Ceramics, Porcelain as the main clay body with the use of light glazes.

Phrases that stood out for me.
  • Elements
    of touch, intimacy and mark
making are extremely important to the work that I make
  • I see my fingerprints as a sort of brush stroke.
  • Sometimes what is present is the mark of what is absent.

With the work hinting at fragility I think that I can relate to it myself, the work looks like it would break if you as much as brushed passed it. The aspect of fragility has been something that I have looked into before with work from Claire Curneen.

The use of porcelain adds an immediate hint of fragility to the work. Due to this fragility I think Maeve would be interested in this, but this would be the only connection. I think that Saoirse could also relate to this work, again dealing with the issue of fragility.
